Disability Assistant in Hikutaia

Would you like to take part in an exciting project?

Would you like an overseas experience which will add meaning to your life?

This is a paid live-in position on a lifestyle block North of Paeroa, New Zealand.  We are setting up a community project for our son, 21 years old, who needs 24/7 disability support care.

Join our team supporting this young man, disabled artist, with all aspects of life (including regular outings).  Our current Au-Pair will be leaving at the end of July after about 5 months of a highly successful experience (you will be able to talk with her).

This is more than a 9 to 5 job.  We are looking for someone who will be a companion more than a carer, who will share the interests and activities of a 21 year old.  Full training provided but we would give priority to a nurse with good command of English.  The position will provide you with very valuable skills (includes personal cares and a variety of equipment, wheelchair, hoists, etc...).

Initially the hours will be outside school hours: evenings (approx 3.30-8.30pm), weekends and school holidays (12 hour shifts) until this young man transitions into his adult life, towards the end of the year.  Shifts will then become mainly all days shifts, with some sleepovers.

We are looking for applicants who can fit into a household with discretion and tact and who bring their smile and sense of humour with them.

Are you reliable, punctual, wanting to be of service and commit some of your time to someone who relies on others for his daily activities?

This is a paid position.  New legislation  ensures that support workers are paid well above the minimum wage. Our son receives funding for his disability support so the arrangement means that you provide some hours of support (around 25 hours a week, negotiable), you are paid for them ($19 phr before tax). You live with us, become part of our family, have your own room, food, access to WIFI, power, washing machine etc, paying us board of $250 a week. This will leave you some money in hand each week. We are flexible about it so the arrangement is negotiable, enabling you to discover our beautiful surroundings on your days off.

If you can answer yes to most of these points, then you may have what we are looking for:

- honest, punctual and reliable
- positive outlook with great communication skills
- initiative and willingness to learn new concepts
- physically able and strong body core
- able to provide intimate care
- ability to create a rapport with a young person with complex needs
- technology savvy with windows based platforms and android devices
- full NZ driving licence and a reliable car

If inspired, send your resume AND cover letter to frankylewis@hotmail.com
